Trophies for glider pilots: gold on grey

Two layers of acrylic are all it takes: in front of a grey back plate with engraved competition lettering floats the golden silhouette of a glider, held by a raw wooden base. The parts were cut and engraved at Formulor; design and assembly were Christian Horn's own work.

There is a story to the colour: the originally planned material was suddenly unavailable, so Horn switched to golden acrylic — "the forced switch to golden material actually suits it quite well!", he wrote to us after the ceremony. The trophies were awarded at the 2021 DMJ championship at Burg Feuerstein.

The project shows how far a single technique carries: cut edge and engraving from the same laser, combined with a material that looks precious without being expensive.
