A word clock in nine layers
For the maker book "Projekte mit Arduino und ESP", Danny Schreiter designed a word clock — all nine layers arrive pre-cut from Formulor.
Instead of hands, the word clock spells out sentences, letter by letter, backlit. The build is a sandwich of nine laser-cut layers — bamboo veneer as the front with the letter grid, MDF layers as spacers and LED mounts, thin plywood as a mask against stray light, white paper as diffuser.
All layers come with the book as EPS vector files, ready to order on formulor.de: pick the material, choose the 181 × 181 mm base plate (P1), upload — five files cover all nine layers. Behind it: an ESP microcontroller and two LED matrix boards.
Author Danny Schreiter has been prototyping with Formulor cuts for years — the word clock is the chapter you want to build right away.
